About EQAO

EQAO is an arm’s-length government agency that contributes to the quality and accountability of Ontario’s publicly funded education system for K–12.

EQAO acknowledges the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples on the lands on which we gather today across Ontario, and we thank the past, present and future caretakers of this land.

These lands are gathering points where age-old ceremonies of celebration, initiation and renewal took place. EQAO is grateful to have the opportunity to work and learn on these lands in a community of sharing.

Illustration of a medallion consisting of multi-coloured beadwork borders surrounding a snowflake at its centre. The medallion symbolizes four significant moons of winter and is inspired by the teachings of the Anishinaabe lunar calendar. Rooted in First Nations beadwork traditions and treaty belts, this artwork visually illustrates EQAO’s land acknowledgement.

EQAO Land Acknowledgement

We are profoundly grateful to the EQAO First Nations Collaborative Council and the EQAO Métis Network for their guidance in crafting our Land Acknowledgement.
