The administration of the Grade 9 Assessment will take place from
- Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 7:00 a.m. ET, to Friday, February 2, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. ET, with individual student results reported after each student has completed the assessment.
- Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 7:00 a.m. ET, to Wednesday June 26, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. ET, with individual student results reported after each student has completed the assessment.
Administration User Guide, 2023–2024
This online user guide provides direction and information to teachers, school administrators and IT professionals at schools and boards who are involved in the administration of the Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics.
The user guide will provide key aspects for
- teachers, including accessing their accounts, managing their classes, preparing their students for assessment sessions, and administering the official assessment sessions.
- school administrators, including accessing and navigating their account, and managing student lists and teacher accounts at their school as well as upcoming assessment sessions.
- school board IT teams and representatives, including navigating the technical readiness process and preparing for the accessibility and accommodations options, bandwidth and connectivity requirements, security and domain allowed-list protocols as well as the configuration of devices.

Sample Test
The sample test gives students the opportunity to become familiar with the online assessment and its platform. Students will be able to try out the various tools, including built-in text-to-speech audio, zoom in and zoom out, high contrast and highlighter, in the e-assessment platform.
During the assessment, students complete two sessions with four stages; the sample test consists of one session with two stages, and a total of 27 questions. This sample test also provides students with the opportunity to complete the various types of questions, including drag-and-drop, drop-down menu and single- and multiple-selection questions, that may be included on the assessment.
Alternative Version of the Sample Test
These two formats for the alternative version of the sample test should be used for students who have special education needs or special circumstances and who require specific accommodations that are not compatible with the adaptive assessment. These formats of the alternative version of the sample test contain one session with a total of 25 single-selection questions.
Sample Test—Alternative Version Including Audio with Full Descriptions of Mathematics Graphics
This format of the alternative version is created for students who have a visual impairment (this includes students who require the Braille format) and who require audio that includes full descriptions of all mathematics graphics.Sample Test—Alternative Version Including Audio Without Full Descriptions of Mathematics Graphics
This format of the alternative version is for students who are only able to complete single-selection questions or who require the printable PDF format and who do not require audio with full descriptions of all mathematics graphics.

English–French and French–English Glossaries
The glossaries are intended for French Immersion students to use during the assessment. However, the glossaries are also available for all students in the e-assessment platform. Students can also have access to a hard copy of the glossaries during the completion of the mathematics stages. Both English–French and French–English Glossaries contain many common mathematical terms used in French and English on the assessment.

Formula Sheets
Mathematical formulas are provided on the Formula Sheets for students’ reference during the assessment. Formulas are given for perimeter, area, volume and surface area for various geometric shapes and geometric objects.

Students enrolled in the MTH1W Grade 9 de-streamed mathematics course are learning the knowledge and skills that are defined in the expectations found in the 2021 Ontario Grade 9 mathematics curriculum. EQAO’s Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics assesses student learning of the content in this curriculum.
