Content Development Committee Member: Reading Selections

EQAO is not directly offering an employment position; individuals will be hired by a third-party employment vendor of record and then assigned back to EQAO.

Assessment: The Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary and Junior Divisions; the Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics; and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

Location: Online (remote work)

​​​Each EQAO assessment program (Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary Division [Grades 1–3]; Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Junior Division [Grades 4–6]; Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics; and OSSLT) has a Content Development Committee in English and in French to ensure that all assessment/test items are equitable, fair and accessible.

Each member is provided with their own reading selection development assignment, and all reading selections must be developed based on the criteria provided. Committee members are paid based on the number and type of reading selections developed from the assignment. The work must be completed outside of members’ normal work hours. Members are required to review all training materials. In order to ensure the material is appropriate for the specified large-scale assessment, EQAO education officers review the material and provide feedback for revision. All reading selections must be approved by EQAO prior to the completion of the assignment, and members will be paid for the reading selections that are approved. All reading selections must be developed with consideration of an equity, diversity and inclusion perspective and must be aligned with The Ontario Curriculum to ensure they are equitable, fair and accessible for all students.

Members will

  • review all training materials.
  • develop a set of required assessment reading selections for an EQAO assessment based on the assignment provided.
  • submit reading selections and then review feedback from EQAO.
  • revise reading selections as necessary.

All reading selections must be developed to ensure that they are

  • equitable, inclusive and respectful of the diversity of all students.
  • age and grade appropriate for students.

In order to be considered for a position, you must

  1. have an EQAO profile.
  2. ​​​have secure access to the Internet.
  3. have a device that meets the requirements in the Browser Compatibility document.

For All Assessments

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Skills using computer word-processing programs
  • Knowledge of and experience with large-scale assessments (e.g., previous work with EQAO)
  • Knowledge of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • A track record of working collaboratively with others and accepting instruction and feedback
  • Experience in developing learning or assessment materials for students

Additional Qualifications

Primary and Junior Divisions

  • Experience with the Ontario primary- or junior-division language curriculum (2023) and teaching primary or junior students

OSSLT

  • Experience with literacy across the curriculum and teaching students in the intermediate or senior division (Grades 7 to 12)

The selection of candidates will be guided by expertise with assessment and evaluation practices and large-scale assessments as well as balanced reflection of the following:

  1. Extensive equity, diversity and inclusion expertise
  2. Curriculum knowledge and experience
  3. Geographical representation (north, south, east, west, rural and urban)
  4. Experience as teachers, administrators, subject experts and consultants
  5. Lived experience as a writer from First Nations, Metis or Inuit communities
