Content Development Committee Member: Items

EQAO is not directly offering an employment position; individuals will be hired by a third-party employment vendor of record and then assigned back to EQAO.

Assessment: The Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary and Junior Divisions; the Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics; and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

Location: Online (remote work)

Each EQAO assessment program (Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary Division [Grades 1–3]; Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Junior Division [Grades 4–6]; Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics and the OSSLT) has a Content Development Committee in English and French to ensure that all assessment or test items are equitable, fair and accessible.

Committee members are paid for a specific number of days determined by EQAO. The number of days is based on the assessment and the length of the assignment. It can range from a minimum of two days to a maximum of x days. Each day is equivalent to 7.25 hours of work. The maximum number of days will be communicated to committee members before they accept the position.

Each member is provided with their own item development assignment, and all items must be developed according to the criteria provided. Committee members are paid for training, item development and item revision. Item development work must be completed outside members’ normal work hours. Members are required to review all training materials. For the language component, items may need to be developed in relation to a reading selection. In order to ensure all items are appropriate for the specified large-scale assessment, EQAO education officers review the items and provide feedback for revision. All items must be approved by EQAO prior to the completion of the assignment. All items must be developed with consideration of an equity, diversity and inclusion perspective and must be aligned with The Ontario Curriculum to ensure all items are equitable, fair and accessible for all students.

Members will

  • review all training materials.
  • attend synchronous training meetings as required.
  • develop a set of assessment items for an EQAO assessment based on the assignment provided.
  • develop various types of assessment items, including single- and multiple-selection, drop down, drag and drop and open-response, according to the specifications in the item development assignment.
  • submit items and then review feedback from EQAO.
  • revise items as necessary.

All items must be developed to ensure that the items for a particular assessment are

  • equitable, inclusive and respectful of the diversity of all students,
  • age and grade appropriate,
  • aligned to the curriculum expectations being measured and aligned to the categories of knowledge and skills and strands they are mapped to (mathematics items) or
