Position: Bilingual Numeracy Education Officer
Period of Secondment: One-year term with possibility of renewal for up to three years
Salary: $82,217 – $141,937 (Secondment) Please note that the current salary of an applicant must be within this range.

- Bilingual Numeracy Education Officer
EQAO is seeking a dynamic individual interested in working in a fast-paced environment using cutting-edge approaches to online assessment items and design. EQAO creates and delivers engaging curriculum-based large-scale assessments for students that lead to insights into their learning and contribute to research and data analysis to support school and board improvement initiatives.
EQAO is looking to hire an educator to join the Numeracy team. Education officers are involved in all aspects of the assessment, including assessment and item development, review, administration, scoring and reporting. Education officers also review item statistics and provide insights and support on research initiatives. This role requires collaborating with team members, leading projects and prioritizing multiple initiatives to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will
- coordinate, plan and lead large-scale education assessment projects;
- develop project plans, establish critical paths, monitor progress, produce reports and resolve issues;
- be involved and provide expertise in the design, planning, development, administration, scoring and reporting of the digital numeracy assessments;
- provide technical knowledge for the continued development of technology-enhanced assessment items and scorer training plans;
- create, review and update related assessment support materials (e.g., user guides, presentations, reports), documents and policies;
- engage in and demonstrate technical expertise and leadership in the e-assessment system and platform;
- support the design and development of assessment content and the digital platform with a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and student well-being;
- develop, review and revise assessment items that meet statistical criteria and measure curriculum expectations/skills (primary and junior numeracy curriculum; or Grade 9 numeracy skills);
- analyze and report on the assessment items and provincial results to support understanding of student achievement and for high-level decision making;
- contribute to research initiatives relating to assessing, evaluating and reporting student achievement in numeracy across the province;
- present research and assessment content to various stakeholders, organize and lead consultations and/or participate on committees with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, school principals); and
- organize and lead consultations and develop consensus and understanding with stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, principals) who may have opposing needs and positions.
Basic Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have
- a current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification and Registration and be in good standing with the College; and
- a minimum of five years’ teaching experience or equivalent demonstrated educational experience.
Desirable Attributes:
The preferred candidate will provide evidence of the following:
- knowledge of education theory, assessment practices and pedagogy as they relate to student achievement in numeracy;
- a thorough understanding of the current Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1–8: Mathematics, as well as experience implementing it;
- a deep understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion and how they impact assessment design and student achievement and well-being;
- understanding of online assessment design, including the creation of engaging student-focused assessments that incorporate an enhanced user experience with technology-enhanced items;
- familiarity with EQAO’s assessment frameworks and processes, and large-scale assessment practices in general and specifically in relation to the mathematics components of the primary- and junior-division assessments, Grade 9 assessment;
- understanding of the relationship between large-scale provincial assessments and classroom assessments;
- knowledge of the impact of EQAO assessment results on school policies, programs and professional practices;
- relationship-management skills and an ability to develop and foster positive networks with colleagues and a variety of stakeholders;
- a willingness to learn about new technologies and experience delivering online learning programs;
- being detail-oriented and able to review passages, assessment items and documents for errors or issues;
- experience collaborating on research initiatives on understanding and reflecting on student achievement;
- demonstrated expertise in project planning and time management;
- superior communication and facilitation skills to deliver presentations on research initiatives, assessment content and design to stakeholders and respond to inquiries from the field;
- proven leadership skills, initiative, problem-solving skills, collaboration, and effective skills in managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously;
- strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel and Outlook);
- good oral, written and electronic communication skills; and
- ability to fluently read, speak and write in English and French.
