MPT

Mathematics Proficiency Test

The Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) has been reinstated as a certification requirement for teachers who will be certified in Ontario as of February 1, 2025. 

The test is developed and administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), and successful results will be sent directly to the Ontario College of Teachers.

The following are the MPT windows for the 2025–2026 school year:  

  • Monday, September 29, 2025, to Saturday, November 22, 2025
    (Registration opens Monday, September 8, 2025)  
  • Monday, January 12, 2026, to Saturday, March 21, 2026    
  • Monday, April 20, 2026 to Saturday, June 6, 2026 (tentative)

  • EQAO Webinar for Ontario Mathematics Proficiency Test Participants

    This session is provided for Ontario teacher candidates taking the Ontario Mathematics Proficiency Test. Participants will learn the process for registering for the test, the format, and the technical requirements for participating from a remote location. EQAO staff will be available to answer questions.

  • Mathematics content from Grades 3 to 9, which includes some no-calculator and some calculator-enabled items
  • Pedagogy component assessing the applicant’s knowledge surrounding a foundational understanding of the mathematics curriculum, assessment and evaluation practices, and learning for all students

In addition to the two components of the MPT, applicants can complete an optional questionnaire consisting of identity-based questions, and a Mathematics Attitude and Perceptions Survey.
