The Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) has been reinstated as a certification requirement for teachers who will be certified in Ontario as of February 1, 2025. 

The test is developed and administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), and successful results will be sent directly to the Ontario College of Teachers.

    In this information session, applicants will learn more about the test content, examining each component of the assessment—mathematics and pedagogy—in more detail. EQAO staff will be available to answer any questions.

  • Mathematics content from Grades 3 to 9, which includes some no-calculator and some calculator-enabled items
  • Pedagogy component assessing the applicant’s knowledge surrounding a foundational understanding of the mathematics curriculum, assessment and evaluation practices, and learning for all students

In addition to the two components of the MPT, applicants can complete an optional questionnaire consisting of identity-based questions, and a Mathematics Attitude and Perceptions Survey.
