On behalf of the staff at EQAO, we thank you and your teams for the assistance you have provided in implementing changes to Ontario’s large-scale assessment program. While we await our renewed mandate, we are committed to making changes that improve our processes and collaborative efforts. This year, we had more opportunities to hear from our partners about ways to improve our work—from schools and school boards, to members of special education advisory committees and EQAO working groups such as the EQAO Student Advisory Committee. Thank you to those who took the time to reach out, share recommendations and participate in our consultations.
We value everyone’s perspective and, based on the input we received, are pleased to announce a series of updates to our assessments and reports, which will come into effect during the 2019–2020 school year.
In addition to the updates coming into effect next school year, EQAO plans to consult on further changes that could come into effect as early as the 2020–2021 school year. We are working with education partners to update components of the OSSLT. In particular, we are exploring options for replacing the News Report task and reviewing the distribution of multiple-choice and open-response questions. We will also be seeking input on EQAO’s student questionnaires, to see if they could offer additional insights of benefit to the education community.
We are committed to listening to ideas, consulting broadly on potential changes before they come into effect and offering notice regarding the implementation of any adjustments. Our goal is to embrace continuous improvements in our assessments and programs, and we value your perspectives in that process.
Thank you for your dedication to the students of Ontario. We hope that you have some time over the summer months to rejuvenate with friends and family after your busy year.
