EQAO is responsible for
- overseeing Ontario’s provincial assessment program. EQAO’s provincial tests assess students’ literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy (mathematics) skills at key points in students’ kindergarten to Grade 12 education.
- coordinating Ontario’s participation in national and international assessments, on behalf of the Government of Ontario.
Grade 3, Primary Division
The Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Primary Division (Grades 1–3) tests the reading, writing and math skills students are expected to have learned by the end of Grade 3.
Grade 6, Junior Division
The Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Junior Division (Grades 4–6) tests the reading, writing and math skills students are expected to have learned by the end of Grade 6.
Grade 9 Math
The Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics tests the math skills students are expected to have learned by the end of the Grade 9 mathematics course.
Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
National and International Assessment
EQAO is responsible for coordinating Ontario’s participation in national and international assessments. The findings from these assessments and studies supplement and help establish a context for board and provincial assessment data.
