St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School is located in the south end of Sudbury and serves 650 students, of whom approximately 125 have Individual Education Plans. The school offers a wide variety of programming, including applied, locally developed and not-for-credit courses focusing on life skills.
In 2004–2005, 82% of students in the Grade 9 academic mathematics program and 30% of students in the Grade 9 applied mathematics program met or surpassed the provincial standard.
The key to building student achievement at the secondary level is to promote a mathematics culture.

St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School attributes its success to the development of a school-wide approach. The process begins with an evaluation of EQAO and other school data to identify successful practices and pinpoint areas for further growth. Of particular importance is an exploration of the learning needs of specific school populations such as girls and boys, academic and applied students, and exceptional students. Supported by professional development and release time, teachers develop lesson plans that explicitly incorporate expectations as part of curriculum delivery.
