EQAO is pleased to profile 12 school communities from across Ontario that exemplify the many successful learning environments in publicly funded schools. The collection of these success stories provides yet another opportunity for EQAO to engage with the education community. This is an enriching experience that also gives schools an opportunity to pause, reflect and celebrate all they’ve accomplished. By publishing their stories here, we are pleased to shine the spotlight on the good work being done in these schools and trust that their successful strategies can serve as a model for other schools across the province.
These schools, which represent the rich diversity of the province, have developed many successful and innovative approaches. No single initiative is responsible for student achievement, but improvements would not be possible without one common ingredient: a shared commitment to student learning.
Some of the common themes that schools identify as factors in addressing the literacy and numeracy needs of students are professional learning communities; data-driven decision making; a whole-school approach to literacy, numeracy and student achievement; small-group learning for language and mathematics; one-student-at-a-time strategies; high-quality teaching; parental
involvement; the coordination of school and board improvement planning and implementing Ministry of Education initiatives.
EQAO celebrates these schools’ stories and applauds the efforts of Ontario’s educators, parents
and public as we all work together to inspire students to become successful learners.
