How to Request an Appeal of a Student’s Results on the 2010 OSSLT

Students who wish to appeal their results on the 2010 OSSLT must contact their school’s principal, who will submit the request on their behalf.

Once the appeal request has been considered, EQAO will notify principals of the results directly.

Sample Test Materials

The sample test material is a complete test in the same order and with the same instructions as an actual test. The use of this material provides parents, students and educators with a test similar in length and format as the actual administration and illustrates the types of items (questions and prompts) that students will encounter. They have not been used on actual tests, so student work at each score code is not available.

The Power of Good Information—“Assessing Every Student”

This paper outlines the value of good data and how EQAO assessments help to ensure that everyone involved in educating our children has the most powerful information available to continue this improvement.

Provincial assessments that gather information from every student provide an essential foundation of data that educators, policy-makers and researchers rely on to plan for student progress. Full-census assessments also create strong, local accountability in the publicly funded school system.

Characteristics of Successful and Unsuccessful Student Performance on the OSSLT

The document is designed to clarify the distinction between successful and unsuccessful performance on the OSSLT. This information will assist educators to help unsuccessful students understand what "getting better" at literacy looks like, to identify evidence that will help a student move from one category to another and to discuss areas for student improvement with parents.
